Why You Sabotage Your Success & How to Fix It

Hidden deep in your subconscious mind, lives a matrix of programming that rules you.

This matrix rules the way you think,
the way you feel,
and the way you act.

While it may seem that you’re in complete control of how you operate, this isn’t always the case.

Fundamentally, we’re hardwired for survival. As we grow up and experience the world around us, we learn what thoughts, feelings, and actions WORK—what thoughts, feelings, and actions keep us alive.

Some life experiences foster a deep sense of love, trust, connectedness, and resilience, which generally promotes ways of being that are conducive to success later in life.

However, their are other life experiences that foster FEAR {an emotion rooted in survival}, which promotes ways of being that can become dysfunctional in the pursuit of greater levels of success.

Realistically, we all have both types of programming to some degree.

If we didn’t have dysfunctional programming to overcome, there would be nothing to strive for—nothing to grow past. Life would be boring.

Some people never need to or want to overcome their dysfunctional programming, but because you are determined to do what you love and be successful at it, I know you are not one of those people.

In relation to your success, you can think of dysfunctional programming as standing upon a forest path, only to look up and see the intricate weaving of branches and leaves keeping the light out.

If only you could navigate your way beyond the canopy, the path to your success would be so bright and clear…

Essentially, the forest of your subconscious is the only thing keeping you stuck.

So what does this look like in real life?

On the surface, you feel frustrated that you’re not getting the results you crave. You feel like you’re not doing enough or there’s something wrong with you or that other people are to blame for your lack of success.

Underneath the surface though, your dysfunctional programming is rearing its ugly head. Somewhere along the way, your programming decided that what you want isn’t safe and therefore, your programming will do whatever it takes to keep you away from it.

For example, let’s say no matter what you do, you can’t break through the plateau you’ve hit.

Little do you know that you can’t break through the plateau because when you grew up, your subconscious observed that outshining your siblings made them resent you. Since you’re hardwired for survival, it was imperative that you remained a part of the pack. To avoid being extricated from the pack, you learned to not become too successful.

In the present day this outdated programming is still ruling you, therefore you sabotage yourself every time you come close to breaking through the plateau.

This is just one example, but can you see how consciously, you might really want something, but unconsciously, you repel the very thing you want if it’s in direct conflict with your old programming?

UGH, so frustrating—I know.

So how do you fix it?

Quite simply, you shine a light on it.
You become aware of it.
And from that place, you can consciously choose to take actions outside of it.

It’s difficult to be your own observer because you can’t always see how the programming is operating, but as a Psychology major and a former Mental Health Counselor, I have become extremely adept at uncovering programming that keeps you stuck.
